7. Business / Action Plan & Cost Breakdown
Give us an action plan, considering that I'm going to invest 25,000 Rand, and then Wynand going to pay people to harvest, so he doesn't need to harvest himself. They would be able to do it within a month, given 5 tons. And the people who are going to harvest are locals, where the stuff just grows wild, and I think for those people, even 5 Rand is a lot of money.
Let's say I invest R20,000 a month for 3 months. That will keep them going, basically to keep them afloat themselves, and to pay workers to harvest and to build their equipment. So that gives them R60,000. If they live off what they used to earn. The workers apparently need about, I don't know, R15,000 a month to harvest. So then there's just enough money left for the machinery. That'll have to do. I can't afford much more than that. So work out the action plan according to that..

90-Day Action Plan for Moringa Oil Business (With R60,000 Investment)
Goal: Process 5 tons of Moringa seeds into oil within 3 months while covering living expenses, worker salaries, and equipment costs.
#
📅 Month 1: Foundation & Harvesting Begins
🔹 Main Focus: Build the press structure, start harvesting
🔹 Budget Used: R20,000
#
✅ Step 1: Secure Harvesting Workers & Collection Process (Week 1)
- Pay R15,000 to workers (farmers & locals) to start harvesting & collecting Moringa seeds.
- Assign someone to oversee collection & storage to prevent waste & theft.
- Ensure seeds are properly dried before pressing.
#
✅ Step 2: Gather & Buy Materials for the Press (Week 2-3)
Remainder of R20,000 goes toward materials:
- Steel frame (welded or bolted)
- Large screws (anchor bolts)
- Sprockets, chains, and bearings
- Pressing plate & perforated drainage plate
- Engine (7.5 kW) or used motor with enough torque
Work on constructing the press base & assembling parts.
Begin modifying screws & securing sprockets.
#
✅ Step 3: Setup Oil Collection & Storage Area (Week 4)
- Secure metal or plastic drums for storing extracted oil.
- Build a basic filtration system (fine cloth or mesh screens).
#
📅 Month 2: Press Assembly & Testing
🔹 Main Focus: Finish building the press, continue harvesting
🔹 Budget Used: R20,000
#
✅ Step 4: Continue Paying Workers (Week 5-8)
- Another R15,000 goes toward workers (harvesting nearing completion).
- Store all collected seeds safely—moisture & pests can ruin them.
#
✅ Step 5: Complete the Press & Attach the Engine (Week 6-7)
- Weld or bolt the frame securely.
- Mount the screws & chain system, ensuring smooth movement.
- Attach the engine & main sprocket drive.
- Install oil collection tray & waste discharge area.
#
✅ Step 6: Test the Press with Small Batches (Week 8)
- Run small test batches (~10 kg of seeds at a time).
- Adjust the pressure & chain tension if needed.
- Check oil yield—if too low, increase pressing time or force.
#
📅 Month 3: Full-Scale Pressing & Oil Storage
🔹 Main Focus: Extract & store oil, prepare for sales
🔹 Budget Used: R20,000
#
✅ Step 7: Final Worker Payment & Press Optimization (Week 9-10)
- Pay R15,000 for the last round of harvesting (5 tons should be fully collected).
- Optimize the press—tune screws, chains, and pressing force.
#
✅ Step 8: Full-Scale Oil Pressing (Week 11-12)
- Press 10 kg batches continuously.
- Filter and store the oil properly.
- Aim for ~1,331 liters of extracted oil.
#
✅ Step 9: Arrange Buyers & Distribution
- If selling unrefined, look for bulk buyers (cosmetic brands, health stores).
- If refining, plan basic filtration & deodorization steps (optional).
- Contact potential local and export buyers.
#
📊 Final Breakdown of Investment & Expected Outcome
#
💰 Total Investment: R60,000
- Workers: R45,000 (3 months of harvesting salaries)
- Press Build Materials: R10,000–R15,000
- Engine & Chains: R5,000–R10,000
#
📈 Expected Yield & Revenue
- Total Oil Extracted: 1,331 liters
- Selling Price (unrefined): R1,500/L → R1,996,500 total revenue
- Selling Price (refined): R2,000/L → R2,662,000 total revenue
#
📌 Expected Profits (After Costs)
- If selling unrefined: R1.9M profit
- If selling refined: R2.6M profit
#
🚀 Conclusion: Is This a Good Investment?
✔ YES! With only R60,000 investment, the project has the potential to generate over R1.9M–R2.6M in revenue in just 3 months.
✔ The press is reusable, so future harvests will require less investment.
✔ The only risk is finding buyers, but bulk oil buyers exist in the cosmetics & pharmaceutical industry.
✔ Reinvesting profits into better refining & storage can further increase revenue.
#
🔜 Next Steps
- Confirm the availability of buyers (before full-scale pressing).
- Source all needed materials for the press.
- Begin harvesting & build the press simultaneously.
- Run test batches & optimize extraction efficiency.
- Sell the oil & reinvest for further production.

🔜 Maunita & Wynand
